Horsforth Trials Club – Round 5 Simon Green Motor Engineers LTD Series

We couldn’t have asked for better conditions – superb weather, stunning views, and eight fantastic sections plotted out across the land directly above the Stump Cross Caverns.
(Results are listed by route position rather than class)
Hard Route
The Bellwood clan turned out in force, with Daniella and the kids cheering on John – and he didn’t disappoint. Riding superbly, John took a convincing win, dropping just 6 marks. We’ll forgive him for not letting little Matilda ride this time, especially with a result like that!
In second place, Chris Watson finished on 23 marks – a strong ride as he builds towards this year’s Scott. Let’s just hope he avoids another tumble like the one on section 3!
Third place went to Bradley Green on 43 marks, with sections 3 and 8 proving costly.
It was also great to see a familiar face back in action – David “Pemby” Pemberton. Unfortunately, mechanical issues forced him to retire early, but even after several years away from the sport, he looked more than capable of shaking things up in this class.
Clubman A
1st: Steve Fowler – in superb form, he made it look easy, dropping just 1 mark all day.
2nd: Nige Pearson – 13 marks, including a failure on section 5, but three cleans straight after showed he’s correcting his mistakes.
3rd: Lincoln Fraser – a tidy ride, losing 19 marks.
Clubman B
Plenty of riders here are knocking on the door of moving up to Clubman A.
1st: Adam Bell – brilliant ride from the O50 rider, with just a single dab on section 3.
2nd: Jonny Waterhouse – only 3 marks lost all day, clearly in sync with his 4RT.
3rd: Series sponsor Simon Green – always stylish to watch, finishing on just 6 marks.
Clubman C
I may have lied in the opening statement – things can get even better. Sunshine, great views, and the unmistakable thunder of an Ariel echoing across the valley (perhaps even down into the caverns below!).
1st: Katie Ward – aboard the Ariel, she took a brilliant clean ride.
2nd: Steve Gossop – completing a twinshock 1–2 on his BSA, dropping just 1 mark.
3rd: Jamie Waddington – a superb ride from the young B Class rider in his first season on adult routes, finishing on only 5 marks and improving with every event.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported the trial, especially our observers, officials, and of course the landowners who make it all possible.

Round 5 – Horsforth Trials Club, Trials UK Sponsored Series
Sixteen riders rolled up to Stump Cross Caverns in glorious weather for Round 5 of the Horsforth Trials Club series. The event featured six superbly marked-out sections — with a twist. For this round, Red and 50/50 riders also tackled Section 8 of the adult green route. A great way to test the waters of moving up to the adult course when the time is right. We may include this again in future rounds… or maybe not. Let us know what you think!
Results
Red Route
1st – Tom Mitchell: Fresh from the Trial GB paddock, Tom took top spot with 26 marks lost. Section 5 proved his nemesis, with the double rocks catching him out most.
2nd – Alfie Hulmes: A strong ride and continued progress this season saw Alfie finish second, dropping 57 marks. His commitment and steady improvement are paying off.
Retired – Benjamin Swainson: Unfortunately, bike issues forced Benjamin out midway, though he remained in good spirits.
50/50 Route
1st – Josh Bancroft: With 21 marks dropped, Josh secured victory. Interestingly, every single mark came on the sections observed by his dad, Chris. Perhaps a bedroom-cleaning dispute carried over!
2nd – Billy Carter: Taking on the 50/50 for the first time, Billy finished with 76 marks lost. Despite being early in his riding career, he tackled the tougher red lines with determination and a smile. The experience highlighted areas to work on, and no doubt he’ll soon be dropping far fewer marks.
Yellow Route
1st – Adam Carter: A superb ride from Adam, losing just 21 marks all day. Smooth, controlled, and impressive recovery when off-line — with feet glued to the pegs.
2nd – Jack Fawcett: Another strong showing with 42 marks lost. Jack rode with full commitment, though wheel size and some giant rabbit holes held him back. (What are the rabbits eating in North Yorkshire?)
3rd – Freddie Moore: Just two points behind Jack, Freddie showed excellent form and consistency.
White Route
1st – Emily Lamb: Riding her new bike clearly paid off — Emily went clean all day. She even tested herself on the yellow route and looked ready to move up a class soon.
2nd – Emma Mitchell: A great performance with only 9 marks lost, all on Section 3. Another strong, consistent ride from Emma.
3rd – Jude Horner: Also finishing on 9 marks, Jude missed out on second place on the tie-break of least cleans.
Rider of the Day
Arthur Smith takes the honors. Only at his fourth(ish)-ever trial, Arthur showed massive improvement — standing confidently, controlling the throttle, and bagging 10 cleans, including 4 on the tricky Section 4 while stood up. A brilliant effort — bravo Arthur, keep it up!
These pictures are turning into funny face competition’s 😂
Thankyou to Chris Mitchell and Chris Bancroft for marking out and observing.
To the Club officials, Land owners and most of all, everyone for coming and supporting the club.
Any photos, send them to me, Chris Bancroft and I’ll add them. My brain couldn’t observe and play photographer so only a few.
